01Use & Limits

Use and limits

When & Where

Relatively clean bottom, finesse searches and less active bass.

Limits and common errors

Not every stickbait stands up, and the rig is not limited to a stationary upright posture.

02Setup & Retrieve

Setup and retrieve

  1. Rig straight and check the fall in shallow water.
  2. Use light lifts, glides and pauses instead of constant heavy dragging.
  3. Watch line and fall changes and use a hookset appropriate to the small hook.
AMotion & Structure

Action Demo
SIDE VIEW
  • The flat bottom of the mushroom head makes it stand on the bottom and the buoyant plastic lifts the tail, like a small creature feeding on the bottom.
  • The action is so subtle it catches fish even when you do almost nothing.
BTackle & Technique

Tackle and technique

Rod
ML–M, fast
Reel
Spinning 2000–2500
Line
PE #0.6–0.8 + fluoro 6–10 lb
  1. “Swim–glide–shake”: a few slow turns to glide it just above the bottom, then let it settle and give it two light shakes.
  2. Drag slowly or hop it in small hops.
  • The lighter the jig head the better, as long as you can still feel the bottom.
More application notes
  • Inactive fish, cold water, heavily pressured water
  • Hard bottom, gravel, gentle slopes
  • Beginners who want steady bites
  • Thick weeds (exposed hook point)
