Weightless Rig (incl. Wacky)

ノーシンカーリグ · Also called Weightless, Wacky

No weight at all, just a soft plastic on a hook (usually a dense stick worm or soft jerkbait). It sinks slowly and naturally under its own weight. In wacky rigging, the hook goes through the middle of the worm so both ends quiver as it sinks.

BHow it works

How It Works

  • With no weight, it sinks slowly and the material itself creates the action: a stick worm shimmies as it sinks, and a wacky-rigged worm flaps both ends like wings.
  • A soft jerkbait on an offset hook darts side to side just under the surface.

Main Types

TypeNotes
TexposedOffset hook with the point buried; fairly snag resistant and can come through sparse cover.
WackyHooked through the middle, it has the strongest action on the fall; a weed guard can be added.
CRetrieve

Techniques

  1. Cast near the target and leave it alone; let it sink naturally and watch the line for a bite.
  2. Once it's on the bottom, lift the rod to let it sink again, or give it light shakes.
  3. Soft jerkbait: jerk and pause.
DWhen & Where

When & Where

● Good for

  • Shallow, clear water
  • Spawning season, fish in the shallows or on the edges of cover
  • Inactive fish that respond to a slow fall

○ Not ideal for

  • Deep water, strong wind (the bait is too light to control)

FTarget & Tips

Target Species & Tips

  • The line keeps sinking slowly as the bait falls; if it suddenly speeds up, stops or moves sideways, that's a bite.
  • Fish easily tear wacky-rigged worms; slip on an O-ring first and hook through that.
