BHow it works

How It Works

  • The curved face creates lift and deflection in the current, making the spoon wobble side to side; the deeper the curve, the wider the wobble.
  • Thick, narrow spoons sink fast and cast far; thin, wide spoons flutter down slowly and wobble even at low speed.

Main Types

TypeNotes
Casting spoonLong casts and steady retrieves to search open water.
Micro spoon0.5–3 g, for trout in managed pay ponds; color and speed matter a lot.
Jigging spoonHeavy and thick, jigged vertically up and down in deep water in winter.
CRetrieve

Techniques

  1. Steady retrieve: just fast enough that the spoon wobbles side to side without spinning over.
  2. Lift & fall: let the spoon flutter down on the fall; effective in deep water and winter.

  • Spoons also twist line; use a swivel.
  • In pay ponds, go brighter on overcast days or in stained water, darker or natural on sunny days in clear water.
